Request Educational Records

Your child's educational records are the most important thing you can obtain. This will include emails sent by school staff regarding your child, testing done to identify any disabilities, and other records maintained by the school. If restraints have been utilized on your child, the educational records will likely contain some documentation regarding those occurrances.

Click here for a helpful form that will assist you in requesting your child's educational records. Under Texas state law, schools are required to provide your child's records in 10 business days or notify you of their intent to request an exception. The sooner you request the records, the sooner you will know the TRUTH!

Share What You Find

If you identify anything out of the norm within your child's educational records, let professionals (such as an attorney, advocate, etc.) know immediately so that an action plan can be formulated. Sometimes the best approach may be as simple as approaching the teacher or principal at your child's school, but in other cases, more aggressive measures may be required. With your professional's blessing, you may want to share what you find with us or your friends and family through email and social websites. There is power in knowledge, but only if that knowledge is shared with others. Together we can make a difference!

Be Prepared to Fight

Although there is always the hope that the school will be reasonable when discussing anything you may find regarding your child, our experience has been that Prosper ISD has a poor reputation for working with parents. Rather than focusing on solving problems, it prefers to "circle the wagons" and fight - using our own taxpayer money to hire attorneys. This mentality appears to begin with the Superintendent and trickles down to Principals and on down to teachers and support staff. Until the School Board realizes the scope of the problems within the schools and moves to correct them, it is likely this pattern will continue.

How to Help

The best way to help us is to seek the truth for your own child. Ensure Prosper ISD is following the law by obtaining your student's educational records, filing Texas Public Information Act requests and filing complaints with Texas Education Agency (TEA) when they fail. Together, we can make Prosper ISD the best school district in the State!
